Coronavirus and the Fair

*PLEASE NOTE: THE GUIDELINES FOR FAIRS ARE CHANGING RAPIDLY. THIS INFORMATION IS AS OF MAY 2020. WE WILL UPDATE INFORMATION AS WE RECEIVE IT.
As fair season in Ohio begins, many Agricultural Societies are facing how or if to have a fair in 2020. The Knox County Agricultural Society is no different. The Board has been working tirelessly to find information to lead us in the right direction. We are committed to putting on the best fair under this trying time.
We know all Knox County citizens want to ensure the health and safety for everyone and we are trusting that each one will help keep that goal. To comply with the guideline listed below, attendees and exhibitors need to keep in mind that checking yourself for symptoms before coming to the fair, wearing a mask while on the grounds, proper handwashing, and keeping the social distancing are key to the end goal.
Listed below is the website for guidelines to follow going forward with the fair in whatever form it takes. These recommendations or Best Practice guidelines are from Governor Mike DeWine, the Ohio Department of Health’s Dr. Amy Acton, MD. with Responsible RestartOhio, and locally Julie Miller of Knox Public Health. The address for the full detailed list is: https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/static/responsible/County-Fairs.pdf.
If we are able to meet mandatory guidelines towards having a fair, some of the changes you might notice will be less available seating in our grandstand. We encourage visitors to bring their own lawn chairs to ensure distancing. Our food concessions will be staggered to accommodate lines. By doing this, lines will not intermingle in the center of the midway. There will be more hand sanitizer/hand washing stations through out the grounds. Merchandise vendors will be spaced out more.
If the fair is still deemed unsafe for mass gatherings, we will hold a Junior Fair only. This will be for 4-H and FFA members to show off the accomplishments they have made with their projects. Our kids have put many hours into their projects and deserve to have a chance to finish the year as close to a “normal fair” as possible.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and practicing the guidelines as listed. Help us keep the Knox County Fair strong and healthy!
